under the radar: little-known celebrity cosmetic surgery

Apr 25, 2012 | By: Erin Cullingham

It’s always a god feeling to know that the beautiful people staring back at us from the TV, the movie screen and the gossip websites and magazines may have been born with imperfections, just like the rest of us. The difference is these famous faces (and bodies) have the resources to improve their look.

While some celebs go over the top with surgeries, others keep their nips and tucks under the radar. Here are a few of those stories:

Ryan Gosling

The dreamboat of all dreamboats, Ryan Gosling was born nearly perfect – the exception being a nose that was slightly larger than most of his A-List leading men counterparts. In the very early days of Gosling’s career, his face was punctuated with a nose that hooked downward slightly, adding a bit of “quirk” to his look. In recent years, though, he’s been seen sporting a slightly small, straighter, more streamlined schnoz.

Jennifer Connelly

This classic beauty struggled with a problem many Hollywood starlets would (and have!) paid to have: large breasts. Although Connelly’s were never tremendous in size, rumours swirl that she may have had her breasts reduced in order to showcase a more slender physique. This is one of those rumours that may be a figment of our celeb-obsessed imaginations, though; Connelly simply admits to having gone through a stressful period in her life where she lost a lot of weight and got very thin. And as we all know, weight loss shows up in our bust line before anywhere else…

Jennifer Gray

To people of a certain generation, Dirty Dancing is one of those movies you’ll watch any time it comes on TV. Jennifer Gray, the movie’s lead actress definitely had an interesting look back in the day – a uniquely beautiful face punctuated with a stronger nose than you might typically see on the big screen. But when she emerged back in the public eye a few years ago on a season of Dancing with the Stars, she debuted a new, softer facial look, proving that where beauty is concerned – say it with me, now: nobody puts Baby in a corner.

Stacey Keibler

From pro wrestling to George Clooney’s arm candy, Stacey Keibler is one of those celebs who just seems pretty normal and down to earth. A natural blonde beauty with mile-long legs, it turns out Keibler really is just like the rest of us: unhappy with some of the genetics that mom or dad kindly passed down. In Kiebler’s case, it was her slender and lean body that did her in. The poor thing. Like many naturally thin women, Keibler struggled with a less-than-ample bosom. Recent photos of her in a bikini show the same slender bod, with slightly fuller and rounder breasts – opting for a natural-looking small C-cup rather than going overboard like so many.

Clay Aiken

Remember when American Idol was a fresh new concept? Back in season 2, Clay Aiken won hearts with the soulful tunes he crooned on the live singing talent show – even though he didn’t win the title of American Idol. Nine years later in 2012, Aiken appeared as one of the stars on Donald Trump’s attempt at reality TV, Celebrity Apprentice. His fondness for foundation and bronzer aside, Aiken seemed to have let himself age gracefully… mostly. Aiken admits to having had liposuction; while in for a jaw surgery to fix his TMJ, he had the doctors suck out the fat in his chin, revealing a less-cherubic face than the one he’d grown into as an adult when he hit the small screen for Apprentice.

Susan Sarandon

Susan Sarandon lived up to her own legendary status by casually confirming that, yes, in fact she has had some work done – and what’s it to you?  At 65-years old, she’s still a knockout, but even the elite need some help against the sands of time. Sarandon admits to recently having some liposuction done under her chin and around her eyes. She’s even mentioned that more work may be on the agenda down the road, citing some frown lines that she may decide to soften with Botox or dermal fillers.

Rumer Willis

A beautiful girl, born with some of her famous dad’s facial features, Rumer Willis did what many of us might have done, had we been born with such a strong chin (and if we had the bankroll to afford the surgery). Chin reduction surgery is a fairly invasive procedure, but the result is so much softer and feminine, while still keeping true to her unique beauty.

Paul McCartney

Paul McCartney was featured prominently on the 2012 Grammy Awards, and when he emerged on-stage to perform his latest track, he looked like a more middle-aged Beatle than his 65 years might otherwise lead one to expect. The jury is still out on what, specifically, Sir Paul had done, but many experts agree that there was some work done on the upper and lower eyelids to remove droopy skin and crow’s feet, resulting in a much more relaxed-looking face.

Megan Fox

The babe of the decade, Megan Fox is beautiful – no doubt about it. But even the most beautiful women in Hollywood feel they come up short in some areas, and for Fox, that area was her face. Mind-boggling, right? While Fox was pretty her whole life, plastic surgery to narrow and streamline her nose, and fillers in her lips elevated her to the smokin’ hot sexpot she is today.

As a society, we’re more wrapped up in the goings-on of celebrities than ever. Be it musicians, actors, politicians heiresses or reality TV stars, we are connected to every up and down, every scandal and comeback and every implant ad injection of the celebs we love – and the ones we love to hate.
