What is brown and sticky?
What do you call two sticks with rouge?
A fashion show.
Have you ever been out with a guy and worried about whether or not you were 'stick-like' enough for him to find you attractive?
The question of whether or not men find skinny women attractive has been asked many times. After numerous surveys, blind feel studies (we'll get to that a bit later), and investigations into the evolutionary theory of man, scientists have come up with their best guesstimate:
Yes... and well, no!
Men are driven by the promise of appearing cool and macho. This is why fast-paced car commercials sell millions of cars, and sexy beer commercials promote pot bellies. This is also why some men tell their buddies they prefer the “one-handed butt.” That is, a woman whose entire backside can be placed within the single palm of his hand. Do you know how popular this guy would be at a Playboy Mansion party? Not very.
A Woman's Ideal... Not a Man's
The skinny woman is the ideal for advertisers and fashion designers. They know women have been through a minimum of 38 diets in their lifetime, and desire to be both thin and attractive. They also know that a stick slides into a designer gown with far less effort than an hourglass figure, which says that many designers are a bit lazy when it comes to dressing their models for a show. The most important question to consider is, Who do you think is the number-one decider of most purchases for the household? I'll give you a hint. It's not men.
According to statistics, women are responsible for purchasing over 90 percent of the furniture and vacation packages. They account for 60 percent of automobile purchases, and over 50 percent of home electronics. This is a very big reason why a good portion of eye candy that comes off the runway, fashion magazine, or television advertisement, looks more like stick candy. In other words, the fashion model is not skinny for men; she is skinny for you, because she knows what you want.
If advertisements were purely for the average man, there would be a lot more curves and trampolines involved. Women are fighting to be skinny, in order to compete with each other, and not contend for a man. If you want to know who men prefer, all you need to do is take a trip into the land of nerds, lab coats, and quantum physics.
Studies of Women, Weight, and Their Attractiveness
The Blind Leading the Blind- In an odd study at Radboud University Nijmegen (Netherlands), researchers pulled several blind men into a van, and allowed then to feel up a series of mannequins. What they found was that these men unanimously agreed that the curvier figure was the most fun to cop a feel from. In other words, Miss Pixie stick received minimal love.
Love Her Like Chopped Sirloin- In a study published in the British Journal of Psychology, researchers suggested that men prefer heavier women when hungry, and skinnier women while full (satiated). The reason may be that men want a woman who looks like she knows how to take care of herself during hard times, which translates to eating. To back up this theory, researchers point out that Playboy playmates have been traditionally heavier during the more 'depressed' moments in history.
Survival of the Wobbliest Bits
Men prefer a woman's BMI (Body Mass Index) and waist-to-hip ratio (hip size divided by waist size) to be on the high side (19 to 25 and 0.6 to 0.8). There is an evolutionary strategy to curvy women. It allows them to conceive, birth, and nourish a baby with better success. A study in 2004 rocked the nation, after claiming that men prefer big breasts because they account for greater levels of progesterone. In other words, men perceive these women as more fertile.
Oedipal complex theories flew out the window, along with Hollywood diets, as researchers dared to suggest that maybe what truly attracts men to a woman's body is her health and promise to make babies!
